Email is growing in the face of the rise of social media

Despite the rise of social media, other means of online communication such as email continue to be more widely used.

A study presented by the company Ipsos, in which almost 20,000 people from 24 different countries were surveyed, shows that 85% use the Internet to check email while 62% do so to look at social networks.

As we have already analysed recently , one of the many "prophecies" that have been repeated and announced since the appearance of social networks has been the death of email. Even Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, has stated this on several occasions. However, apart from the multiple statements and predictions of some experts in this regard, there is no proof that this will really be the case, but perhaps it is being exaggerated.

Keren Gottfried, head of research at Ipsos, says this is normal as the internet was originally used to send letters online so it is not surprising that users are using the digital version of sending a letter by post.


But how people use the Internet also varies from country afghanistan phone number to country. In Hungary, 94% use it to send emails, but in Saudi Arabia, the percentage drops to 46%. In Indonesia, on the other hand, 83% of users use social networks, 76% in Argentina, 75% in Russia and 73% in South Africa.

The figures are considerably lower in other countries such as Japan, with 35%. The North Americans are in the middle of the range, with 61%.

But it is not known how long email supremacy will last, as companies such as Google and Facebook have already tried to end it on several occasions, such as in 2009 when Google launched Google Wave, a new evolution of email that ultimately did not materialize. Facebook launched another system in November 2010 designed to replace email among younger consumers.

The One without the Other

Email can offer businesses a wealth of data to better target the products they sell as well as the ads they want to run. Combined with data from Facebook (likes) and Twitter (sentiment toward a company), brands can increase their knowledge of customer preferences for future communications.

In conclusion, it is socialized email that has a great future, because through integration, participation and sales are boosted, forming an ecosystem that is totally beneficial for companies.
