Email marketing continues to triumph among UK companies

Sign-Up.to has released the 2011 edition of its UK Email Marketing Benchmark Report, the only benchmark for email marketing across the UK, and this time it shows the strong persistence of the territory’s mail order businesses, with an average email open rate of 18.21% and a click-through rate of 3.29%.

For the second year in a row, restaurants delivered the best results in the business sector, with an impressive 28.19% average email open rate and a 6.64% click-through rate. Email marketing has become the industry’s established way of communicating with customers, alongside social media activities.

The report shows the greatest growth in companies in africa mobile customer care the sales sector, with an opening rate of 27.84%, exceeding the previous 22.19%, representing an increase of 5.65%. This is followed by Sales/Marketing with an increase of 3.24% and restaurants with 2.29%.


The largest increase in clickthrough rates was seen in the New Media category, with an increase of 2.55%.

Database churn remained very low, demonstrating that marketers who employ email marketing engage their subscribers and present them with relevant content, leaving no room for attrition. The rate has been between 1% and 1.5%, which is within the expected range and occurs in almost all sectors covered.

The report is based on the results obtained from more than 500 million email campaigns sent by organisations and businesses across the UK, and provides us with very important insights into the performance and effectiveness of email marketing, offering marketers a starting point for organising their campaigns in this form of promotion.
