Health Desk: Both fresh and dried leaves of Baska are used medicinally. Baska leaves contain an alkaline substance called 'vasisin' and oil. Baska is famous as an expectorant because it activates the salivary glands of the respiratory tract. Baska leaf extract, juice or syrup thins mucus and facilitates its discharge, making it especially useful in colds, coughs and inflammatory diseases of the respiratory tract. Application:

11. Those who suffer from asthma can dry the leaves of Basak, roll them like a bidi or cigar, and smoke them to relieve breathing problems.

12. Those who have a smell of sweat on their body can get rid of the bad smell by applying the juice of Basak leaves on their body.

13. Regular use of a mixture of basil leaf juice and conch shell powder will give you fair skin.

14. After soaking three to four basil leaves in a pitcher of water for three to four hours, the water becomes pure. You can then use it.

15. The juice of Basak leaves removes head lice.

16. Taking the juice of Basak leaves or flowers with one or two spoons of honey or sugar cures jaundice.

17. Applying the juice of Basak leaves on the body can cure ringworm.

Other benefits:

Basak leaves contain some alkaline substances that prevent the growth of fungi and insects, so they are used for packing and preserving fruits. The leaves have a bad smell and do not give off odors. That is why Basak leaves are especially useful in clearing land for cultivation.
