What Is a Routing Number?

Post by rumiseoexpate16 »

The bank routing number, also known as the ABA routing transit number, is a nine-digit bank code. These digits are used to identify the financial institution that is associated with the bank check.

In 1910, the American Bankers Association developed and established the system to make it easier and more organized for banks to sort, bundle, and deliver paper checks to the issuing bank. In turn, this makes it easier for banks to transfer funds.

The digits we see in the routing number are split into two. The phone number database prefixes represent the geographic location. For example, these may represent significant cities or regions of the United States. Meanwhile, suffixes represent the banking firms that are located in a specific geographic location.

Here in the Routing Numbers List, you can find the routing numbers for other banks. For example, check out our write-ups for Fifth Third routing number, Chase Routing Number, and Santander Routing Number.
